Question

I am still getting the hang of all this.  Could somebody explain to me how the Food Journal works?  I’m confused about the Net Calorie Balance and Calorie Deficit thing.  How does this break down and what does it mean?

Malted Milk Balls and Lane Bryant

They got me today - at the grocery store.  Just reached out and grabbed me.  I ate about 15 of them, then came to my senses and threw the rest away.   Malted Milk ball attack survivor.

Shopping for interview suits.  Another blogger mentioned yesterday how hideous some of Lane Bryants clothes are.  That got me started on my pet peeves about large size clothes.  Ever notice how Lane Bryant ALWAYS puts these gigantic patch pockets on the front of blazers and suits?  What’s up with that?  Do they really think this looks good on anyone?

Also - buying a cheap t-shirt for lounging around in - large sizes all seem to have cartoon characters on them - Tweety Bird or Betty Boop - does this really look good on someone over 12?  And they all have gigantic neck holes.  I guess they think that if the woman is fat, she must also have a huge head and neck!

Diet Coke

I’m addicted to Diet Coke and I have a theory.  Have you ever noticed people at convenience stores buying the 32 oz or even 64 oz Diet Coke in the morning?  They all seem to be obese.  My theory is that Diet Coke actually makes you crave high fat food and sugar.  I know there have been scientific studies to this effect, but I really think there is something to it.  Also holds true for other caffienated beverages.  I’m sure that your body craves the high from caffiene, and then when you crash, you crave sugar.  Also, the artificial sweetners make you think you’re getting it, and when it wears off, you want more.

I used to work a night shift and thought nothing of drinking a 6 pack to keep going.  I’m down to one or two cans a day, and I’m planning to start cutting it half and half with De-Caf.  I’d like to eventually stop the De-caf too, ’cause I don’t want all those chemicals in my body.  Anybody else trying to kick the habit?

It is -15 degrees here today.  I really want to go for a walk, but I don’t think I’m that brave.  Also really itching to ride my bike, but that’s a couple of months off.  Maybe Monday I’ll go hike around the Mall of America.

Day One

First full day of trying to eat healthy.  I’m trying to eat 5 or 6 small meals a day, concentrating on protien, fruits and vegetables.  My husband is constantly pushing “fresh raw fruits and vegetables”.  I haven’t started exercising yet, but hope to start next week.

I am also looking for a new job - got laid off right after Thanksgiving.  I took December off and worked on hobbies and getting the house in order - but now I have to get down to business.  Thought this was a good time to get down to business with my health too.   I guess I’m at “that awkward age” where I realize I’m not going to live forever - but I want to make the most of life and be as healthy as possible.  Hubbie is in tip top shape, except for very high cholesterol.  That’s the ironic thing - I’m overweight and my cholesterol is 175!

Looking for buddies who can encourage and have a sense of humor about it.
